NYFW | Breezy Oasis - Diane Von Furstenberg SS14 Review

My first post for New York Fashion Week (NYFW)! NYFW is so different from all others because you get a really strong sense of American glamour. It's great to see modern luxurious styles and you're always bound to recognise a few very famous faces on the catwalk. New York Fashion Week to me is spending central - the trends and styles you see are always very marketable.

One of the most interesting womenswear designers is Diane Von Furstenberg. I focus more on menswear but I would always take note of what goes on at DVF. The good thing about womenswear is that the runway looks are very nicely styled because they can use more accessories. Sometimes the look is really well put together and you don't know where to look! It was also surprising to see Naomi Campbell close the show for DVF ss14. The superstar walked down in a beautifully detailed gold and black dress. Just shows how much work designers put into an outfit. All the photos are here!

Fast-Fashion World - Swedish Retailer H&M to Launch in Australia!

Earlier this year, H&M expressed interest in launching a concept flagship store in Australia. It will be the first in the continent adding to the wave of fast-fashion retailers (ZARA, Topman, Topshop) flocking here. Speculations of where that might be between Sydney or Melbourne are finally (and unfortunately) settled. The new flagship store will be in Melbourne's GPO next year. So jealous right now. I think fast-fashion has really revolutionised the way a lot of people shop. It's great that everyone can have good access to current trends and ideas for affordable prices (especially for menswear). I love their collaborations with some noted labels too like Versace, Roberto Cavalli, Maison Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf.

H&M The Icons (Hi, I love Liu Wen)

H&M Mens SS 2013

The new store will be one of the largest stores globally as H&M anchors its position in Australia as a top retailer. The store will be around 5,000 square meters over 3 floors. I want to get lost in it.

I love how H&M is marketed, working with noted designers to lift its own brand as well as provide the general public with access to clothing by those high-end designers (which are great at generating revenue at this more economic level). I hope there will be pieces which are Australian exclusive.

Melbourne is getting everything :( with Japanese UNIQLO also wanting to set up its flagship store there. I want Kuroki Meisa all over Sydney instead please.

Being a Watch Guy - Obsession with watches

I always think accessories are the most important things in an outfit. They give hints about so many stories, so many stories of you. The thing is, because it isn't like a piece of clothing and it is chosen specifically and individually, accessories tell a lot about what is conscious as well as sub-conscious about a person. Currently I am really obsessed with watches. I love their look and I also like how they are practical things. I know a lot of people think why would you wear a watch when you have a phone to check the time, but watches are more than just practical things. Using something as what it actually is has long become a thing of the past. Everything these days can be a fashion statement or serve another purpose. I wish I could afford to collect watches (although not in the sense like some people who collect vintage Rolexes and Chopards for investment purposes but) to wear and to look at and keep at home - I want to collect these 'fashion' watches which aren't really expensive but still, it's time to work hard $$$. I really like the boxes that come with the watches too. I don't know, I want to be a watch guy haha.

Sean O'Pry is too cool. Patrick Demarchelier is crazy good. Maybe I'll get one from Calvin Klein just cos they're cool.

Instadigest | 2013 Winter

It's Spring time, although Winter wasn't relenting this year at all. I actually had quite a lot going on and I couldn't pick out only 6 photos from my instagram which represented this time completely, but I guess I had to make a decision and here are some of the most characterising moments for me this Winter. Plus, I kinda blogged about other lifey things in the Op-shop and Cologne diaries.
(30+ days x 3 months)/ 6 photos = 15+ days
So I guess mathematically, each photo should represent more than 15 days.

Left: Birthday month takes priority of course ;) Thanks to everyone (especially my mum and sis for flying to visit me), and especially for the love from all your shrivelled up black hearts :D
Right: Hanging out with Chrissy around The Rocks and The Observatory! The day was pretty tiring actually but it was super fun and one of the many good days I had during the break from uni. More photos here.

Left: Splurge day. Hi Pierre Balmain. I am very poor now but this jacket is an investment and leather jackets last forever anyway.
Right: The launch of SUCK IS FREE at +ESTATEofMIND. A great party and launch of a Sydney label. Check out my post here and the outfit post here. I had such an awesome time!

Left: Shooting with ensofoto! It was really thrilling and embarrassing doing this in public LOL. It was much more challenging then I thought. The finished photos are here and the outfit post is here.
Right: At the NOKIA Lumia 925 Launch Night. The dress was also showcased at Vivid Sydney 2013. Awesome night and super great planning. Check out more about the night here.

The Op Shop Diaries - Leather Jacket

24 July 2013

I don't exactly remember when I bought this jacket but I deduced that it was more than 4 weeks ago and I knew it was a Wednesday so I guess that's the date. Woah, it's already been 4 weeks. Oh that's right, its the end of Week 4 at uni. Yeah mid sessions and quizzes are approaching me fast.

Anyway, I got this at Paddington St. Vincent de Paul and there were quite a few good things there. I was at Paddington because I was running all around Sydney trying to find 110 mm film for the Agfamatic 2008 Camera... found nothing except at Blender Gallery and then later at MCA. I think op-shopping at Paddington and finding something that was pretty nice got me into op-shopping.

Alongside this jacket I saw an Industrie leather jacket for $35 (I think) but it had cigarette stains or mould at the back or something and the zipper didn't work (I probably wouldn't zip it anyway). It was gone when I went today to develop the film, so someone probably knew what to do with it. Leather jackets are really cool cos they can be worn in a very structured or very unstructured way. On the same day I splurged on 'that' Pierre Balmain leather jacket. So I guess I didn't really thrift at all, taking the day as a whole.

Isn't my bathroom beautiful?

The Cologne Diaries - Spicebomb (Viktor & Rolf) Review

10 August 2013

I was always interested in Spicebomb because of:
1. The bottle design
2. The marketing campaigns and etc.
3. The unique scent.

When I tested it in stores it always felt too different for everyday wear. I love the cinnamon smell but I always thought that it was too strong. But after wanting it for months I got it early this month and wore it today. It's actually sooooooo gggooooooddddd. I'm not exaggerating or kidding at all. I love the uniqueness of the smell now and it isn't overpowering at all or weird, after wearing it the whole day.

The musky-ness is great for winter and I basically recommended it to everyone I saw today. Now the grenade style bottle design is just icing on the cake. A cinnamon cake.

Actually it's like chai latte. I smelled like chai latte. No wait, that sounds bad.. but trust me it's really good. Ok I'll stop now.

LOOKBOOK | Bone City

LOOKBOOK LINK: Bone City

Uni is super hectic with readings and heavy subjects and everything due in a few weeks. So I haven't been on the internet as often as I would like to. Plus I've been organising my time between work, study, uni, friends and family quite inefficiently. But I know it'll get better after this month once one of my subjects is finished :)

Paul Smith White Shirt
Dolce & Gabbana Diamond Cardigan
Tarocash Tie
Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Messenger
DIESEL DZ7356 Watch
Brown Hemp Bracelet
Bally Belt
Cheap Monday Black Skinny Jeans
Clarks Brown Suede Boots

On another note, I will try and post more and more with denim jeans. I've wanted a pair of nice blue jeans for so long and finally found one in the break (but the waist is too big). Oh well, until I find a better one this one will do.

Ok my hair was really short in this but it's grown a lot now so I look normal. Anyway, more photos and edits here. It was a great day shooting. It's scary but really fun shooting in public. People stare at you and take pictures of someone taking pictures of you on the streets. It was really embarrassing because the photographer had full lighting equipment out and everything but it was one of the most fun things ever.

Chicken or the Egg?

I want to address this question here instead of writing a thesis and research paper upon graduation. Did the chicken or the egg come first? My judgment is as follows. It depends what sort of egg is being contemplated - if it is just any egg then dinosaur eggs came before the chicken so the answer is egg. But if it's the chicken egg, the chicken came first as 'chicken' is the adjective of a chicken egg, therefore, an egg is just an egg until a chicken comes into existence and can be an adjective for the egg.

A 'chicken egg' may be interpreted in two ways. An egg containing a chicken or an egg laid by a chicken. I do not believe the former can be a correct interpretation because that would disqualify an unfertilised egg laid by a chicken as not a chicken egg (since there is no chick or chicken inside). However, this is what some people have in their fridge. If the egg is interpreted as an egg with the potential to develop into a chicken, it can also not be entirely correct as during evolution, there was a multitude of possibilities which the contents of an egg could have mutated into what we know as chickens. This meant that a vast selection of eggs which had the potential to mutate in such a way were chicken eggs. This is against contemporary understandings of what is known as a 'chicken egg'.

Thus, it is the latter, where an egg is a chicken egg because it is laid by a chicken. Thus, the chicken must come first. Even if there was a first chicken (scientifically, Gallus gallus domesticus) which hatched out of an egg laid by its evolutionary ancestor, which for argument's sake, we may call it XX. The first chicken hatched out of an XX egg, not of a chicken egg.

Uni is so tiring and this is going to be a very tough semester with heavy subjects and everything due in a few weeks. Although the lectures are somewhat interesting, it is very draining and I have so many little assessment tasks to worry about. It's not just the structure of the course which tires me but also sometimes my lecturers. I have some of the most interesting lecturers I've ever had - they're full of personality. There's a loud barrister, a comedienne in her double life and there's one who is often politically (in)correct. I'm really having a lot of fun but it's also very different to what I'm used to so I'm quite intimidated by these large personalities - because I'm the one usually in control and feel in control, the one who is of bigger personality, usually the inappropriate one. On top of that, the bookshop lacks a textbook I need so I'm going to be behind. Also I still have to go out a lot since it is my birthday month and I still work. I guess I did ask for this lifestyle though, I liked busy. I wanted to be an energiser bunny.

Darkness is also your friend - Nokia Lumia 925 Launch Night

We all know that in photography, lighting is your best friend so it was always a problem taking pictures indoors or in low light situations. One thing I hated was going to restaurants and taking pictures of food in low light (cos we love taking pictures of food ok). Thanks heaps to Fuel Communications and Ms Sennnaa for having me at the launch night of the Lumia 925. It's such a sleek and stylish phone with a modern large screen and it's super slim and lightweight. I get to try the phone out for two weeks and I can't get enough of it! None of the photos were edited. Most of the photos that night were taken under extreme low light and no flash. It's an awesome phone for me to use when I go to events and parties!

One of the biggest selling points of this phone is its photo capabilities. It is by far the best camera in low light situations and to prove it, the whole event was hosted in the dark! The performers had glow in the dark paint and there was mostly only black light to show off the paint and one of the centrepieces of the night, a Kaleidoscopic dress by Tess Tavener Hanks who is submitting it for her HSC. Her piece was also showcased at Vivid Sydney. The dress and headpiece weighs over 16 kgs and the model stood there for most of the night showcasing its beauty.
